Wineries of Argentina: Algodon Wine Estates

Utilizing the old vines and altitudes of the Sierra Pintada Mountains, the Algodon Wine Estates in Mendoza have over two thousand acres of prime vineyard land. The positioning between two rivers provides highly clarified waters and interesting mineralities from glacier irrigation running down from the Andes.
The estate is currently run by Scott Mathis and his correspondents at DPEC partners, who strive to initiate ‘excellence’ in areas such as viticulture. Therefore they also take advantage of this vast expanse of land and the favorable climactic conditions in Mendoza by using the land to produce olives, nuts and other fruits in addition to wine production. All the production methods for all aspects of Algodon Wine Estate’s produce use eco-friendly options to maintain their ecologically responsible and science-based philosophy.
Mauro Nosenzo, Marcelo Pellerti and Anthony Foster are the names behind the wine making philosophy. Their expertise and combined ideas, conduct the operational side of the viticulture to fully gain advantage of such a bountiful terroir. Some of their influences include determining the exact moment to harvest each varietal for the best product, Mauro Nosenzo concentrating on the best way to reach a target market that will appreciate the particular types of wine produced. Marcelo Pellerti has been appointed a 100-point prize from Robert Parker, and therefore is the prime enologist on the estate. Whilst Anthony is the ‘Senior Wine Advisor’ and has been a noted expert in the field for over 35 years, becoming a ‘Master of Wine’ in 1974.
The Algodon Wine Estate produces 6 lines: 2004 Limited Edition, 2004 Private Collection, 2006 Reserva, 2008 Premium, Special Rose and finally, Special White. Algodon currently only supplies their produce to the US and throughout Argentina.
A small something that markets the Algodon estate differently to other leading vineyards in Argentina is the optional personal touch. You can have a personal label created and put onto one of their main varietals of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonarda and Chardonnay.
